This exhibition consists of small-scale oil paintings which draw from my daily life over the past two years. Painting from memory, I return to moments when my emotions have stayed with me, becoming heavier, more potent, or precious over time. My intention is that the paintings conjure the emotions that these personal narratives ignite in me, hoping these universal feelings transcend for the viewer. As a collection, these paintings explore how tenderness, humor, conflict and grief coexist inside the small details of an ordinary life.

Originally from North Dakota, Douthit has lived and worked for many years in Ireland, and is now based in Malmö. Major achievements include the 2013 RHA Hennessy Craig award, 2026 Adams Award, a solo exhibition at the North Dakota Museum of Art, twice awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, several Arts Council Bursaries, and is included in many Irish public and private collections.

Recent exhibitions include Holding Space Molesworth Gallery; and a solo exhibition Butler Gallery, Kilkenny. Forthcoming inclusion in Galleri Thomassens group show 'High Tide, Low Flux' in Gothenburg.

Douthit and her paintings are the subject of Opening Night a book by acclaimed Irish author Sara Baume, published summer 2026. What Makes a Life will be Douthit's first solo exhibition in Sweden.
